Reflections (mysterious)

Three friends were having a discussion.  The topic came to mystery.  What is the most mysterious thing in the world?
They each ponder the question for a moment and then one said; The most mysterious thing in the world is a flashlight.
What is mysterious about that, the others asked?
Well, you turn on the flashlight and point it up toward the heavens and the light beam shines up and up and up into infinity.  That is mysterious.
The second friend said, that's mysterious but not as mysterious as electricity.
Why is that the most mysterious thing in the world, the others asked?
Well, you flip a switch and lights come on.  Then you flip it again and lights go off.  That is mysterious.
The third friend noted that each of those held element of mystery, but insisted they were not the most mysterious thing in the world.
What is, the others asked?
A thermos bottle.  (Updating the story world be a Yeti)
What is mysterious about a thermos?
Well, you put hot in and it keeps it hot.  You put cold in and it keeps it cold.  My question is, how does it know when to which?

No application.  No insight.  Just a corny preacher joke from the 70's (I attribute that to Rev. Cecil Williamson!)
My brother will remember more of these than I do.  It seems every sermon in those days, had to include some joke along those lines.
Today I am reminded that not every day must be filled with deep insight and understanding.  Some days we merely need a shake of the head and a smile.
We cannot control the horrible things going on around us and with us.  But we can look for glimmers of hope.  We can look for something positive.  An act of kindness.  Some generosity.  A good habit.
With God's people there is an abiding sense of peace and joy.  A little smile may bring light into someone's darkness.
This is the day the Lord has made.  Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
