Reflections (Future)

Future.  Our future.  Your future.
I do not want to get ahead of myself with this idea.  We have a long way to go before we enter the new future that awaits us.  It is encouraging to hear of plans and stipulations about re-opening the economy.  But that does not mean we ring a bell and everything is back like it was March 1!  But we do have a future.  You have a future.  It will really help when we realize that it is in fact, God's future.
Some time back I started getting an email that has a daily trivia question.  I get about half of them right.  They are followed with some "interesting facts."
Today the question was about caviar.  I got it right. (Guessed well)  The follow up "fact" was about Paul Revere.  Okay, it has nothing I can see about caviar but that is not the point.
Paul Revere.
"'Twas the 18th of April in '75.  Hardly a man is still alive...."
Did you know Paul Revere was captured before he reached Concord with his message of warning?
Paul Revere did not really say "The British are coming!"  All the colonists were British.  But it sounds good.
The point I take today is this.  Paul Revere went on to become a successful businessman.  I would have figured a key player in the revolution who was captured by the enemy would not have much future.  But after the Revolution, Paul Revere opened a hardware store, a foundry and eventually the first rolling copper mill in the United States.
I admit my source is an email trivia game, but it sounds good.
It serves as a reminder that we have a future.  You have a future.  We are in a battle.  There is no "end date" we can circle on the calendar.  There will be ups and downs.  We will find ourselves taking different steps as we re-engage in many aspects of life.  And we will find ourselves, one day, in the new future.
In a real sense these are "revolutionary times".  Our future will not be a replica of our past.  There will be pieces we will recognize and quickly claim.  (We will meet together in church in the future, but that is not on the table today.  It is also a matter for another thought.)
Many who feel like they have been "captured" in the caronavirus revolution, will feel hopeless and trapped.  But you have a future.
Many who lose jobs today will never have the same job again.  But there will be new future jobs.  Your future is filled with possibilities.
Like Paul Revere, we may come through this season of life and history and engage in the new future God's graciously opens.
In the new future you will.....
Begin today to write the story of your future.
This is the day the Lord has made.  Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
